Le sacre de Charles VII

Le sacre de Charles VII

Pierre-Charles Comte · Domaine public

This painting depicts the coronation of Charles VII in Reims in 1429, a major event during the Hundred Years’ War. After years of defeats against the English and their allies, the Dauphin Charles managed to be crowned King of France thanks to the decisive intervention of Joan of Arc. The coronation, a symbol of royal legitimacy, strengthened his authority and marked a turning point in the conflict. This event represents the revival of the Kingdom of France and the gradual reconquest of its territory from foreign occupation.
